Set up and publish a roadmap

Columns, horizons and what to keep off the public view.

The roadmap is a view, not a second tool

Roadmap columns are statuses on your boards. Move a post to Planned and it appears on the roadmap; ship it and it moves again and can trigger a changelog entry. There is no separate list to keep in sync.

Choose columns you can honour

Now / Next / Later ages better than quarters because it communicates sequence without promising dates. If your customers demand dates, publish quarters but keep a visible caveat and update it when things move.

Control what is public

Any post can be marked internal-only, which keeps it in your planning view and off the public roadmap. Competitive work and acquisitions-driven items usually belong there.

  1. 1Open Roadmap, then Settings.
  2. 2Map each column to one or more board statuses.
  3. 3Toggle Public for the columns customers should see.
  4. 4Publish, then link the roadmap from your app's help menu.
